How accurate are the carb estimates?
CarbSight uses AI to identify food items and estimate carbohydrate content based on visual cues like portion size and food type. Accuracy varies depending on the meal — simple, clearly visible foods tend to estimate more reliably than complex mixed dishes. Always use your own judgment and consult your care team when making dosing decisions.
Is CarbSight a replacement for medical advice?
No. CarbSight is a tool to assist with carb estimation — it is not a medical device and should not be used as a substitute for advice from your healthcare provider. Always work with your diabetes care team to make dosing decisions.
What is Caregiver Mode?
Caregiver Mode lets a parent or guardian review meal estimates submitted by a child. After the child scans a meal, a notification is sent to the caregiver so they can review the estimate before dosing decisions are made. This feature requires a Pro subscription.
How do I set up Caregiver Mode?
Go to the Settings tab in the app to link a caregiver account. The caregiver will need to have CarbSight installed and accept the invitation.
What plans are available?
CarbSight offers a 7-day free trial so you can try the app before committing. After the trial, you can choose between Basic and Pro. Pro unlocks 25 more scans per day, full meal history, and Caregiver Mode. You can upgrade at any time from the Settings tab.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not CarbSight. To cancel, open the Settings app on your iPhone → tap your name → Subscriptions → select CarbSight and tap Cancel Subscription. You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period.
How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Delete Account in the app. This permanently removes your account and all associated data.

If you have an active subscription: the app will warn you that your billing will continue through Apple even after deletion. You should cancel your subscription through Apple first — the app will give you a direct link to do so. If you delete your account without cancelling first, you'll need to cancel manually via iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

Is my data private?
Yes. Here's a summary of what we collect and how it's handled:
  • Account: Your email address and sign-in provider (Apple ID or email). If you use Sign in with Apple, we only receive what you choose to share.
  • Food photos: Sent securely to our server for AI analysis via OpenAI's Vision API. Photos sent to OpenAI are automatically deleted within one hour. Copies are stored in our database to power your meal history.
  • Meal estimates: Carb estimates, food item names, portion sizes, and confidence scores are stored and linked to your account.
  • Subscription: We store your Apple transaction identifiers to manage your subscription. We never see your payment method — that's handled entirely by Apple.
  • Local data: Meal history and preferences are also cached on your device and never shared.

The app isn't working — what should I try?
A few things to try: make sure you have the latest version of CarbSight installed, check your internet connection, and try restarting the app. If the problem persists, email us at support@carbsight.app with a description of the issue and your device model — we'll get it sorted.
